This confectionary is made in the shape of lava from Sakurajima. Sakurajima, the symbol of Kagoshima Prefecture, erupted in 1914. The founder of Fugetsudo made a manju (sweet bun) with azuki red bean paste and brown sugar which is a specialty of the Amami Islands in Kagoshima Prefecture, to pray for the peace of the people affected by the eruption. This is a traditional product that has passed down the taste of Fugetsudo since its establishment in 1919 over 100 years ago, and the current craftsmen continue to handcraft and pass down the traditional taste to the present day.

■About Fugetsudo
Since its establishment in 1919, Fugetsudo has been offering a variety of Japanese and Western confectionaries, including its signature treat, "Satsumadori Sable," which is associated with Kagoshima Prefecture. We will continue to deliver carefully crafted products that combine the traditional taste of Satsuma with a new sense of taste, using reliable techniques cultivated over the years.

■Fugetsudo's Sable: Quality that won the Honorary Presidential Award
Fugetsudo's Satsumadori Sable has been loved by many people as a traditional baked sweet in Kagoshima since 1964.

Its roots go back to the period when Lord Nariakira Shimazu and Takamori Saigo were active in achieving the Meiji Restoration. At the end of the Edo period, the 11th lord of Satsuma, Nariakira Shimazu, who devoted himself to the development of Satsuma's people and technology, created a prototype of the sable. It was a dry steamed rice cake as a to encourage the Satsuma clan soldiers who were going to war. It is even said that Japanese baked sweets began in Satsuma. When the Emperor Showa visited Kagoshima in 1973, we were honored to present our baked sweets to him, and in 2008, we received the Honorary President's Award at the National Confectionary Exposition. Fugetsudo's delicious and healthy sable biscuit has been loved as Kagoshima's representative baked confectionery in both name and reality. Please choose one of the six crispy and savory flavors as a gift for your loved ones.

■About the shape of the Satsumadori Sable
The Satsuma chicken is a natural treasure of Kagoshima. The Satsuma chicken has long been loved by the people of Kagoshima for its strong, fearless appearance and beautiful feathers. In the old days, cockfighting was popular in the Satsuma clan to raise the morale of the samurai, and the sight of two chickens, reminiscent of ancient warriors, boldly challenging their opponents was brave and even noble, and it is said to have further inspired the resolute Satsuma warriors.
